Stefano Perrini
Software Architect
I design and build software systems, from the infrastructure they run on to the architecture that holds them together — with particular attention to distributed systems for scientific computing and bioinformatics.
Working in IT since 1998
About
My work started on Linux systems: administering servers and the databases running on them. That view from below — how software actually behaves in production, and how it fails — has shaped everything since.
Over time the focus moved up the stack, to software engineering on enterprise platforms and then to the design of distributed systems and of architectures meant to stay maintainable for years rather than releases.
The same concerns led naturally to scientific computing: building software for bioinformatics and designing distributed systems for scientific workloads, where correctness and reproducibility matter as much as throughput.
Focus
- Software Architecture
- Structure, boundaries and trade-offs of systems expected to last.
- Distributed Systems
- Coordination, consistency and failure handling across many machines.
- Scientific Computing
- Processing pipelines and compute environments for research workloads.
- Bioinformatics
- Software for the analysis of biological data.
- Enterprise Software
- Engineering on large platforms with long lifecycles.
- Linux & Infrastructure
- Systems and database administration — where the rest of the work begins.
